The Coos Bay Lions Club is proud to announce the 36th Annual 8th Grade Invitational Volleyball Tournament, set to take place this fall at Marshfield Junior High and High School. Launched in 1988, this tournament has grown into a beloved tradition and is believed to be the longest-running invitational of its kind in the region.
With the exception of two years missed due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Lions have welcomed middle school teams from across Oregon and Northern California for more than three decades. Each year, 20+ teams travel from as far north as Mt. Angel and as far south as Fort Dick, California, bringing incredible energy, competition, and sportsmanship to the courts.
While the tournament showcases outstanding athletic skill and teamwork, it also serves a greater purpose. As one of the Coos Bay Lions Club’s largest annual fundraisers, proceeds from the event directly support the club’s sight and hearing program, which provides vital services such as eye exams, glasses, and hearing aids to community members in need.
“Without the funds raised during events like this, we wouldn’t be able to assist as many people in our community,” shared a club spokesperson.
In 2025, the tournament hosted 24 teams, competing in over 70 games over two action-packed days. Bracket champions included:
1A Bracket: 1st Place – Reedsport | 2nd Place – Gold Beach V | 3rd Place – North Bend 7V
2A Bracket: 1st Place – Siuslaw Gold | 2nd Place – Elkton | 3rd Place – Canyonville
3A Bracket: 1st Place – North Bend 8V | 2nd Place – Marshfield JV 8V | 3rd Place – Coquille 8th
Sportsmanship awards also recognized teams who exemplified fair play and respect both on and off the court.
The Coos Bay Lions Club extends deep gratitude to the players, coaches, families, referees, sponsors, and volunteers who make this event possible each year. Your support keeps this cherished tradition alive while ensuring vital services continue to reach those in need.
We can’t wait to welcome teams, fans, and community members back for another exciting year of volleyball, friendship, and giving back.
